DeadHappy life insurance

DeadHappy Limited has now entered administration.

Previously offering a life insurance with a 'one-size fits all' product, DeadHappy was an intermediary, meaning they designed their products but were underwritten by insurance company Shepherds Friendly.

Their aim was to simplify the process of purchasing a life insurance policy to reach a wider audience of customers.

Whilst DeadHappy no longer offer their services, if you’re looking for life insurance, Reassured can offer a simplistic life insurance journey whether that’s with our buy online service or by speaking with one of our friendly team members who can guide you throughout the entire application.

Who are DeadHappy Limited?

DeadHappy was founded in July 2013, based in Leicester, by Phil Zeidler and Andy Knott.

They are best known for their unconventional marketing strategies, with the slogan ‘life insurance to die for’ and ‘life insurance for death wishes’.

DeadHappy were underwritten by Shepherds Friendly, a well-established, incorporated Friendly Society.

In 2023, DeadHappy had accumulated 25,000 customers with £2.5m in revenue.

However, in June 2024, the company had to enter administration due to financial struggles.

Life insurance from DeadHappy

DeadHappy used to offer level term life insurance with reviewable premiums (a policy that increases its premium amount every year on the policy anniversary).

Their policy applications would be advertised as ‘No long forms - We only ask you 4 questions’.

The questions DeadHappy would ask when applying were:

  • Have you had cancer?
  • Has there been anything wrong with you in the past few years?
  • Have you been given a prescription that lasted more than a month?
  • Are you over 17 stone?

Whilst no longer available via DeadHappy, below are some key points about their life insurance:

  • £1,000 - £350,000 pay out
  • 18 - 60 years of age to take out a policy
  • 10 year guarantee on a life insurance pay out (10 year term)
  • All policies underwritten by Shepherds Friendly

Whilst Reassured can’t offer DeadHappy life cover, we can offer other term polices from insurers, including level term and decreasing life insurance.

Both policy types will last for a set period of time (up to 40 years), a suitable option for those looking to cover finances like a mortgage. A level term pay out will remain the same and decreasing term will decrease.

Why do I need life insurance?

Whilst DeadHappy made light of the topic of passing away with their slogan as 'life insurance to die for', it’s important to consider what finances you’d like to cover for your loved ones if you weren’t around anymore.

Life insurance can help to safeguard your loved one’s financial future if the worst were to happen to you. Having a policy in place can help cover finances such as:

  • Rent / mortgage payments
  • Childcare
  • Funeral costs
  • Living costs / household bills
  • Any other financial debts

Reassured’s life insurance quotes are personalised, fee-free and with no-obligation, meaning you can explore your options without any pressure.

Have DeadHappy gone into administration?

Yes, DeadHappy entered administration in June 2024.

DeadHappy released a statement earlier this year to confirm their administration. Adam Stephens and Kevin Ley of Evelyn Partners LLP were appointed as joint administrators of the firm on June 24 2024.

For existing customers, their policies should all remain valid and payments can be made as they have done previously.

Their website states that contact with the company should continue through the same channels.

For more information, visit the DeadHappy website which should offer guidance and support to existing customers.

DeadHappy advert

Amongst other controversial campaigns, DeadHappy faced backlash and reports to the FCA (Financial Conduct Authority)[1].

With the tagline “Life Insurance. Because you never know who your doctor might be” featuring murderer Harold Shipman, DeadHappy had released this ad amongst a variety of other distasteful publications, including their Facebook ad that was banned for ‘trivialising suicide'[2].

Also receiving controversy with their skull logo and cartoon advertising.
